Seagulls - Stripdown of the SPCL, Silver Century Plus Longshaft.

Making a start.

Not too much fuss to get this far - but the front gearcase bolt sheared. Despite a lot of heat, I'm afraid my new Makita proved more powerful than the old metal. It was still the cheese headed screw on the front - the middle on the clutch model is bolted through from below.

Worth noting - a 13mm ( six hex sides, type ) socket will go on to a 'worn' 5/16 BSF. My proper BSF socket was riding it. It is a BSF thread ok - I checked it with the bracket bolts - so its not been tapped up.

I've good access to the front bolt so it wont be a great hassle to drill/retap it, if necessary.

Problems so far -

Driveshaft is stuck in the gear pinion.

Exhaust clamp bolt needed chopping, but was not a proper one.

Front gearcase bolt sheared in alloy housing.

One of the clamp brackets has had a wrong sized large bolt tapped through - so proper hand screw is wobbly loose fit.

Tiller stud chopped short at the split pin hole - haven't tried to get the stud out yet !

Odd flywheel - see flywheel.

On the plus side -

Gear end cap screws all loosened easily.

Got this far !

The spare head block is in great order and the head has dropped of it with ease.
